Seven charged with killing restaurateur

JOHOR BARU, Thurs. - Seven unemployed youths were charged in the magistrate's court today with the murder of restaurateur Liaw Soi Moi.

Six of them are from Kampung Melayu Majidee here. They are Sharil Redzuan Sallehuddin, 21, of Jalan Hikmat, Mohd Wahratul Ikram Abdul Wahab, 24, of Jalan Rahmat, Wan Azhar Wan Yusof, 20, of Jalan Utama, Mohd Faidze Omar, 21, of Jalan Sakti, Mohd Zaidi Abdul Jalil, 21, of Jalan Bunga Raya Kecil, and Ismail Putra Mohd Sarif, 19, of Jalan Anak Sungai Sebulong.

The seventh accused, Mohd Hamidon Mohd Razali, 22, is from Jalan Asas, Kampung Sri Paya, Larkin Jaya.

The seven are charged, together with several others still at large, with murdering Liaw at an unnumbered shophouse in Taman Impian Emas, Tampoi, at 2am on Feb 9.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Teo Say Eng told the court that no bail should be offered, and asked that an early date be set for re-mentioning the case.

Magistrate Mabel Muttiah set June 18 for re-mentioning and informed the accused that they were not being given bail.

Later in the morning, some of the accused were charged in the Sessions Court with three other offences including two gang rapes.
